Karen walked in and took a deep breath, she walked up to Crow and held out a bottle of Wine.. It was red wine a favourite of Karen's she wasn't sure it Vinnie even drank but she guessed the thought would count.

"Ensign I owe you an apology, I was rude and could have handled myself better.. if we can forget this morning ever happened?"

Vinnie looked up at her and gave her a smile. "Did something happen this morning?" He said with a chuckle.

She sat down in front of his desk and took another deep breath. "As for your investigation I have an idea that I think will satisfy us both if your willing to hear me out?"

"Sure, let me get two glasses." Vinnie said going to the replicator and getting the glasses off the menu. He returned and poured them both a drink.

Smiling as she accepted the glass, she said. "As you guessed this traitor stuff has me on edge especially when it is my own department.. However I think we can flush out the offender without the need for interviews." She paused and then asked. "How good are you at acting?"

"Depends on what you have in mind." Vinnie said taking a sip, he smiled at the taste, he had wine before and put it away incase Hillary like wine, maybe the Doctor could give him wine tips.

"Instead of interviewing every staff member which will take more time than we seem to have, I gather the entire staff in one place..with you there.. I tell them that you have a way to track the culprit I also tell them that I have ordered you to wait twenty four hours.. you are not happy about that by the way.. I tell them that if the culprit confesses before the twenty four hours are up.. I will fight for lenience.. they may choose to take me up on the offer or try to hide their tracks either way we catch the person.. I have updated security on the database only I know about.. not even Pierce or Lucas have been informed."

"Sounds like a good idea to me, but and I can hide it well enough or you can hide it, I will let you take my hand phaser just in case, just hide it somewhere where I can get to it in a hurry. I doubt it will come to that but someone with nothing to lose may try something at a spur of a moment." Vinnie suggested.

Karen frowned. "I hope it does not come to that, however you must seem impatient and angry that I am forcing you to wait.. otherwise they may smell a trap if you are to willing.. threaten me with going to the Captain and things like that, preferably within earshot of them all.. and I will hold my ground."

"In a way I am impatient because I don't want him or her screwing anything else up, and I would not go to the Captain unless I really had to, you are willing to help me solve this so all is forgotten, I do not hold grudges, especially since my health is in your hands to." Vinnie said with a smile.

Karen shook her head, "That is where the acting comes in, we must be at odds with each other or nobody will believe the fact you would willingly wait to catch the person.. it must seem like all that is standing in the way of you doing it is me."

"Ok I understand, would you prefer a shouting match or I can do physical without hurting you anymore then your pride, I could just give a light shove to you and all you have to do is act it up, if you wish to slap me open handed pull it but I will go with it." Vinnie said.

Karen raised her eyebrow as she replied. "I don't think pushing and slapping will be needed a small disagreement in earshot of them will be enough to convince whoever is guilty that their time is limited... I can have my staff in the one place later this afternoon and hopefully the guilty person by morning."

"Sounds like a good plan, I may have a better idea then the phaser, I forgot something I learned along time ago. Geez this whole thing has got me tripping over myself, but I have a better idea then the phaser." Vinnie said finishing his glass.

"Well I am sure it will pay off, and be quicker than interviewing the whole staff.. Just follow my lead it is only an act." She stood up and took a deep breath. "I will contact you when i have gathered my staff."

"I await your call Doctor, and thank you oh reminds me I need to come in for something I haven't had since I first got into the academy plus I think I need a general checkup, I like to keep that up to date and I have lost about 20 pounds in the last month." Vinnie said standing.

Karen nodded, "Alright Ensign, when you have the time make your way to sickbay any of the doctors on duty can get that done for you."

"As long as its not Doctor Pierce, I think he and I wont get along for awhile. I prefer you because you have the only access to my records, you and the Captain only." Vinnie said.

A slight look of confusion Karen asked. "Oh that is not standard procedure, I haven't looked at your file yet.. is there some reason only I and the Captain can see it?"

"Thats per My moms request and starfleet granted the request. I know its not standard procedure. I am sorry about that but my mom is very leery of starfleet, since our home planet is not a member of the Federation." Vinnie said in apology.

Nodding with understanding Karen replied. "Ah of course.. No need to apologise Ensign, a standard practice for non Federation species concerned with security of their people.. after our meeting with my staff, I shall give you the check up."

Vinnie smiled. "You are the nicest doctor I have ever met, you cannot believe the Doctors in starfleet in their probing asking all kinds of questions but ignoring your own and treating you like a lab rat. I like you and Hillary, you are both nice and i feel comfortable around you and willing to answer anything you want to know about myself."

Karen smiled but shook her head. "There are nicer people than I but I appreciate the comment non the less, Goodbye Ensign." She gave a final nod and left his office, despite feeling better about making amends for her earlier short temper she still felt like crap about the whole 'mole' in her department.

Vinnie watched her go and sat back down, he picked up a pad and started reading a report that was left for him.
